Principal's Message

A Message From Our Principal

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year!

I am excited to continue this school year as the principal of Hiawatha School.  I am looking forward to seeing all the Hiawatha Huskies back in our building this school year. It has been a long 18 months without everyone in the building and we are all excited to see all our students back in the classrooms learning with their peers. We are so thankful for all the parent support that we have received as we navigated remote and hybrid learning. We look forward to continuing to grow this partnership with you.

I am lucky to have been a part of the Hiawatha community since 1999. I began my teaching career as a 1st grade teacher and moved into the role of Assistant Principal and am now in my 6th year as Principal. I love coming to work every day and engaging with the students, staff, parents, and the community of Hiawatha.

I received my undergraduate degree from Illinois State University in Elementary Education. I also have a Master degree from Saint Xavier University in Teacher Leadership, followed by a Master Degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in Education Administration.

My husband Jeremy and I have 4 children, our oldest son Colin, will be attending college this year at the University of Illinois and triplets Kayla, Haley, and Aidan that will be entering high school. I have always had a passion to watch children grow and am lucky enough to be with the Hiawatha students during the day and my own children in the evenings.

I will continue to work alongside Mr. Justin Gonzalez who is in his third year as our Assistant Principal. Together we hope to accomplish great things and continue to improve Hiawatha School.

We are looking forward to continuing on our dual language journey and entering our 6th year as a Dual Language school. This school year we will have students in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th and 5th grade. It has been amazing to watch our first group of students grow each year as they will be entering their last year at Hiawatha School.

We are thankful to have you as part of the Hiawatha family and hope we can see you all soon! If at any time you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us.
